Winter on Walnut

Winter on Walnut
Shadyside, a cultural district and neighborhood of Pittsburgh, is home to Walnut Street. The street is full of unique boutiques fit for holiday shopping or some self-pampering. Williams and Sonoma, Potterybarn, Sephora, the Apple Store, Ann Taylor, American Apparel, and Banana Republic can be found on Walnut, with various restaurant and cafe options as well. In the background of this picture, you can see the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning in Oakland. Oakland, a modern and youthful area, is a nice compliment to Shadyside, a neigborhood rich in relaxation and tradition.

A Night at the Museum

Carnegie Museum of Art, pictured above, is one of Pittsburgh's greatest treasures. On the border between Shadyside and Oakland, the museum is only four minutes away from Walnut Street. A sophisticated, relaxing, and romantic evening is just what you deserve after a day of serious holiday shopping. For the holidays, the museum offers several events. If your relaxing weekend coincides, there is an opportunity to check out a much-needed Holiday Happy Hour on December 9 for under $20. You and your significant other will be able to check out the holiday-themed galleries, as well as the whole museum while enjoying cocktails and getting in the holiday spirit with a live DJ.

You could also stop by the Holiday Tree: Inspired by the Muses to see five 20-foot Colorado spruce trees in the Hall of Architecture. Each tree is decorated with ornaments that represent the muses that inspire art, culture, and science. The display will begin on December 3.

After a night at the museum, you can venture back to Shadyside for a fun and witty dinner at the Harris Grill--one of the best and funniest places in the city. With a beautiful artisan atmosphere, this privately-owned restaurant is simply the best place to dine in Shadyside. The scene is adorned with beautiful decorations around the holiday and the dinner and cocktail menu is hilarious all-year round. Don't believe me? Check the dinner menu out yourself! Often unannounced, jazz bands perform throughout the week with the exception of Tuesday night and the weekends. A night at the museum and Harris Grill will guarantee an entertaining evening, and a quick return back to The Inn on Negley.
